I have always been a still photographer and have never really ventured into motion imagery. That said, I have always admired the design of certain movie cameras.

Some of my favorites are the vintage versions of the Beaulieu movie cameras. The design and functionality of these cameras are unparalleled. In some ways, they remind me of one of my prized possessions, an early 1950s Rolleiflex Twin Lens, which I used extensively during the "good old days." Throughout the decades I have spent collecting cameras, I haven’t been an “aggressive” collector, and I feel fortunate that many of my vintage cameras were given to me by friends, family, or clients. As a result, I have never had the opportunity to add a Beaulieu camera to my collection.

That changed thanks to my friend Jim Ryan, who generously gifted me two cameras he owned and used. These cameras represent the pinnacle of their respective genres: a Linhof Technika V 4x5 field camera and this Beaulieu R16 from the 1960s. These two cameras are now the crown jewels of my small collection.

Naturally, I had to photograph this camera right away! Even though it’s been a few years, I still love this image and this camera!
